"Scientists don't have the instruments to measure the human soul, but musicians do." - Anonymous
KC Jiang is a San Francisco Bay Area music performer. When he was a kid, he dreamed of being a street music performer some day, but when he grew up he became an engineer. He plays music on harmonica and Irish whistle at The Cannery in San Francisco, Jupiter at Berkeley, Farmer's Market in San Jose, and other venues. KC has been wandering in those two worlds, engineering and music performing and is enjoying both of them.
KC (short for
Kou-Chen) was born in Taiwan, his parents moved from China to Taiwan during the Communist Revolution. When he was a child, his country had only just begun to emerge from the destruction of war and it was very difficult for most families to afford a piano, violin or even a guitar. One day his older brother found a tremolo harmonica in a wooden box. Their mother had brought that wooden box from Shanghai, China to Taiwan.
The harmonica was made in Shanghai and the brand name was "Truth, Kindness and Beauty". His brother played with the harmonica but quickly lost interest. KC was very happy when the harmonica was given to him. He taught himself to play
and off and on for many years.
After he graduated from college in Taiwan, he left for the U.S. to attend graduate school. He traveled around the U.S. and went to schools in Tennessee and Virginia. He finally settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering Department from Stanford University and has worked in the engineering field now for many years."
A couple of years ago, KC revived his childhood dream. He tours the Bay Area venues playing classical music, children songs, Chinese melodies, Celtic favorites, and American folk songs.
He also plays music at festivals, nursing homes, senior citizen centers and churches, and is one of the regular music performers at San Francisco The Cannery

KC taught himself to play Irish whistle after he listened to the haunting Irish
whistle melodies from Titanic. He plays classical music, Chinese melodies, Irish,
Scottish and other Celtic songs, American folk songs and his original melodies on
Harmonica and Irish whistle. He has been very lucky to be able to relay those
passionate, inspirational and delightful melodies to audiences using his two special
instruments.
Being fully bi-lingual, he is able to write poetry in Chinese and English. Three poems have been published at:
Language And Culture:
"Small Town"
"The Border"
"The Drifting Flower Plant"
( "The Border" inspired one of his original songs, coming on the next Irish Whistle CD.)
Singer and songwriter Mia Mustari once told him, "You are such a unique talent. Your music brought tears to my eyes."
